Little Red Riding Hood
Illustrations by Kimberly Escalante
Running through a greenish wood
Going to her grandma's with a basket full of treats
Came upon some forest flowers
She could stop and look for hours
Didn't know a wolf was hiding back behind some trees
She did stop to pick a few
He saw her and stopped there too
Thinking that Red Riding Hood looked good enough to eat
“Hey you little red hood girl
There are bounces in your curl
Just where are you going as you hurry on your way?”
“I am bound for Grandma's house
Quick and quiet as a mouse
Taking flowers and goodies that will brighten up her day.”
“That is such a noble task.
Where's her house if I may ask?”
“O'er the river, through the woods, I'm going there to stay.”
Wolfy ran ahead of her
Sleek and shiny was his fur
Running fast to grandma's house, he had no time to walk
He burst in on grandma's place
After grandma he did race
To a closet she did run and quickly turned the lock
Wolfy jumped into her bed
With her nightcap on his head
Waiting for Red Riding Hood upon the door to knock
Not long after Red knocked here
Wolfy said “Come in my dear”
Opening the door this girl came lightly skipping in
She walked in where wolfy lay
Looked at him and then did say
“Grandma what big eyes you have!” she trembled with chagrin
“With them better I can see!”
Is what wolfy said to she
He was very hungry and his tummy groaned within.
“Grandma what big ears you have”
She reached up and almost grabbed
The pointed furry hearing things that rested on his head
“Better for me now to hear
Come a little closer dear
Stand right here here, I want you close," the wolfy slyly said
“Grandma such a nose have you”
“Better sniffing I can do”
He was sure that very soon he surely would be fed.
“Grandma, you have such big teeth”
“With which I can better eat”
Wolfy jumped out of the bed no more to be discreet
Riding Hood yelled loud and screamed
This was not what she had dreamed
Running from the big bad wolf for bringing gram a treat
Nearby was a woodsman strong
With an axe that was so long
He ran up and struck the wolf and knocked him off his feet.
Red and woodsman heard a rustle,
To the closet they did hustle
Breaking down the door they let the tired granny out
Everyone was safe and sound
'Cept for wolfy on the ground
He learned that the woodsman's axe did pack a mighty clout.
Now we'll end this well known story
Too bad it was kind of gory
Wolf was dead so Little Red could safely walk about.

Little
Red Riding Hood, running down to grandma’s house
She’s got a basket full of goodies and she’s going there without a doubt
She’s got a basket full of goodies and she’s going there without a doubt
Then
she sees some pretty flowers and she stops so she can pick ‘em out
(Looky, Looky!)
There’s
a wolfy in the forest and he’s hiding out behind some trees
Just
a watchin’ and a waitin’ and he can’t believe just what he sees
There’s
a red hooded dinner in the flowers pretty as you please (“Time
for Din-Din!”)
The
wolfy talks to Red Hood, sayin’ “Hey
girl, where you gonna go?”
“I
see ya stopped to do some pickin’ in the meadow where the flowers
grow.”
And
he’s talkin’ really sweetly and he says, “Or
maybe don’cha know?”
“I’m
goin’ to my granny’s and I’m takin’ her some yummy treats”
Cause
she’s feelin’ kinda poorly and I know the food she likes to eat
Now
I gotta get goin’ ‘cause we really weren’t supposed to meet.”
Now
she’s runnin’ through the forest and her legs are flyin’
everywhere
She
is runnin’ really quickly and the wind is blowin’ in her hair
She’s
a tryin’ to really hurry ‘cause the wolfy gave her quite a scare.
(A-a-a-a-a-a!)
Well
the wolfy takes to dashin’ down to grandma’s in a great big rush
Gotta
beat Red Riding Hood, he’s movin’ with a great big fuss
He
couldn’t a gone faster if he’d climbed aboard a greyhound bus.
Wolfie
gets to grandma’s and he pounds upon her wooden door (“Let
me in, Let me in”)
And
when granny opens up he growls and chases her across the floor
Granny
locks her in the closet, she don’t wanna see the wolf no more
Wolfy
grabs Granny’s nightcap and he puts it on his furry head
Then
he pulls back the covers and he jumps into her feather bed (“A-h-h-h,
that’s comfy!”)
And
he’s waitin’ for the girl who wore the hooded cape that was so
red
There’s
a knockin’ at the door, it comes from Little Red Riding Hood
And
the wolfy’s really hungry and he thinks she’ll taste so very good
He
hollers “Come
on in Little Red, I really, really wish you would.”
Red
comes up to Granny’s bed and looks real hard at wolfy’s face
And
it’s certainly apparent that there’s something that is out of
place (“Ughhh!”)
‘Cause
it kinda looks like grandma is an alien from outer space
Grandma
what big eyes you have, you don’t look much like Grandma Smith
And
the wolfie speaks in Granny’s voice “the
better I can see you with”
Then
Red Riding Hood is thinking that her grandma’s really, really sick
“Grandma
what big ears you have , they’re stickin’ up upon your head”
“The
better I can hear you with”
is what Granny Wolfie said
While
he’s thinkin’ she’d
be tasty on a sandwich made with whole wheat bread.
“Hey
Granny, Granny, where’d you get such a great big nose?
I’ll
bet when yer sneezing all the people holler “thar she blows””
“I
can smell ya better with it from your head down to your stinky toes.”
“Wow,
Granny, Where’d you get that mouth full of great big teeth
They
are scary and they’re sharpened and they look like they could cut
through meat”
“The
better they can feed me and I think that it is time to eat”
Wolfy
pulled back the covers, after Riding Hood began to run (Grrrrrrrr)
Then
the girlie started screamin’, she could see that this would not be
fun (AAAAAAA)
There
was one thing she was wishin’ that her goody basket had a gun
(Where’s my 45?)
Real
close to Granny’s was a woodsman with a great big axe
And
he heard Red screamin’ and he ran into the house real fast
Then
he saw the wolf hit him in the head with a mighty whack
(Unhhhhhhhh)
Then
Granny started poindin’ and a poundin’ on the closet door (Let me
out, Let me out)
So
they broke it down and pulled her out and said, “Whatcha in there
for?”
Then
ol’ Granny said “I hope the wolfy’s gone and won’t come
back no more”
Well,
now my story’s over and I hope you learned a thing or two
Don’t
talk to strangers - it’s a very dangerous thing to do
If
no woodsman’s there the hungry wolfie just might be eatin’ you.
And
the wolfie is a bad guy and he really doesn’t have a clue
Don’t
think wolfies don’t eat people, cause I bet that he has had a few
If you had a pot to put him in, you might be eatin' wolfie stew.
Now this song is over and I bet you've got some things to do.
